Contact Lens Exams
Whether you’ve been wearing contact lenses for years or have never tried them before, we offer a full consultation and fitting service. We start with a contact lens eye exam – this takes around 15 minutes and includes:
- Refraction process, to check if you are far-sighted or near-sighted
- Corneal topography, to check the shape of your cornea
- Keratometry, to measure the curvature of the cornea
- Auto Refraction, to measure how light changes as it enters your eye
- Dry eye assessment, to check for signs of dry eye
- Slit-lamp exam, to examine your eyes for any abnormalities.
Once we’ve done the contact lens examination, we’ll talk you through the different types of lenses that are suitable for you. In most cases, you’ll be able to order your lens supply on the same day as your examination.
New to contact lenses?
If you’re new to contact lenses, our contact lens fitting service will include full training. We offer a 5-day trial fitting of diagnostic lenses to check if contacts are right for you, and we’ll set you up with an appointment for a progress consultation. We can fit lenses for children from age 8 and find they get on well with them.
Types of contact lenses
Contact lenses have come a long way in recent years so if you’ve been told previously that contacts were not suitable for you, it’s worth trying again. If you have astigmatism or need multifocal lenses, there’s no problem as there are now lenses available for most prescriptions and eye conditions. If disposable lenses are your preference, you can choose between daily, 2-weekly, and monthly disposables.
Scleral lenses
These large-diameter gas-permeable lenses are ideal for people who have had trouble with contact lenses or have been told they are not a good candidate.
Keratoconus lenses
If you have been diagnosed with keratoconus, we can provide specialized contact lenses for you.
Myopia control lenses
These specialized lenses are designed to help children who have myopia, or near-sightedness. They work to control myopia and reduce the progression so it won’t continue to get worse over time.
Ortho-K lenses
Worn overnight while you sleep, Ortho-K lenses are for people with myopia and removed in the morning meaning you can go about your day without needing to wear glasses or contact lenses.
RGP lenses
RGP stands for Rigid Gas Permeable. They are less popular than soft disposable lenses but have advantages in their durability, crisp vision, and high oxygen permeability.
